Pet Name Builder helps you find a name for a new dog, cat, bird, fish, reptile or small pet. Filter by the kind of animal, their personality and even their coat color, or take a short quiz and get a list made for your pet.
I'm Joan Ramos, and I spend my time making simple websites that anyone can use for free.
The whole thing began with Mary's Printables, my site of free sheets you can print. I never expected anyone to write to me about it, but people did. A teacher told me she'd found just the right worksheet for her class. A parent shared that a chart was helping their child through a hard stretch. Another person was simply glad to print what they needed at the last possible minute.
None of those messages were about fancy features. People were happy because the page did what it promised, right away, and wanted nothing in return. I've kept that in mind with every site since.
A new pet comes home, everyone in the house has an opinion, and the poor animal goes three days being called "the puppy." Long lists online don't help much when you can't tell which names fit a calm senior cat and which fit a bouncy little dog.
So I built a tool that lets you start from what you already know about your pet and work toward a name the whole family can agree on.
Short names are easiest. One or two syllables are quick to call across a yard, and names that end in a vowel sound, like "Milo" or "Rosie," tend to carry well and catch an animal's attention.
Try to steer clear of names that sound like everyday commands. "Kit" sounds a lot like "sit," and "Bo" sounds a lot like "no." Before you decide, stand at the back door and call the name a few times. If it feels natural to shout, it's probably a keeper.
If a name is in the wrong place, a note doesn't sound right, or a button misbehaves, send me a message at [email protected]. I'm the one who answers it.
Pet Name Builder is one of several free tools I look after at FriendlyApps.
